Site Description
The Marion County Museum is housed in a late 19th century school building, the Marion Graded School. The school was built in 1886 to replace a private school, the Marion Academy, which was established in 1811. The restored structure features a double front portico and period cupola housing a school bell.

Upstairs is a recreated classroom from 1900, a farm exhibit and various displays about the history and lifestyle of Marion County. Downstairs, Francis Marion Hall salutes the city and county namesake, South Carolina Revolutionary War hero Francis Marion, and the Magnolia Room is furnished with antiques. The museum is open to the public and is leased for weddings, receptions and other appropriate functions.
