The Regions of Northeastern South Carolina
The Grand Strand is a 60-mile stretch of coastline that extends from the North Carolina state line at Little River southward to historic Georgetown and Winyah Bay. The name "Grand Strand" refers to the beautiful white sand beaches that crown this spectacular section of Atlantic coast line, which is most famous for the beach and golf resort Myrtle Beach.
The Pee Dee Region is the sprawling section of South Carolina that drains into the Great Pee Dee River. It extends from the North Carolina state line in the north to the Winyah Bay in the south, and its historic and traditional center is the city of Florence.
The Low Country is traditionally considered to be the geographic and cultural region that stretches along the Palmetto State's Atlantic coastline from North Carolina to Georgia. It includes the picturesque South Carolina Sea Islands, and its cultural center is his historic Charleston.

Main Street and Depot Street, Society Hill, SC [View Map]
Overview
A state historical marker denotes the general site where a South Carolina civilian, Adam Cusack, was hanged by the British during the Revolutionary War. As British troops moved through the region burning the homes of Patriot sympathizers, Cusack refused to allow British officers to use the ferry he operated at Society Hill. He was executed in retaliation.

Overview
Located on Black Mingo Creek in Williamsburg County, this site is a major stop on the Francis Marion Trail. Here, Brigadier General Francis Marion defeated a larger force of Loyalist militia during the Revolutionary War in the style of guerrilla warfare that made him famous as the "Swamp Fox of the Revolution".

Overview
The site of a Revolutionary War battle, Blue Savannah is located on the eastern rim of Marion County in the Little Pee Dee River flood plain. It is noted by a historical marker on the eastbound lane of U.S. 501 west of Gallivants Ferry.

Overview
Encompassing much of downtown Bennettsville, the Bennettsville Historic District includes historic homes, churches and public buildings. Among them is the Marlboro County Historic Museum and a historic home that was commandeered by Northern troops during the Civil War.

Overview
One of the earliest regions to be settled by English colonists, Britton's Neck and nearby Britton's Ferry was a center of Patriot sentiment during the American Revolution. The ferry that operated on the Pee Dee River was one of the first in northeastern South Carolina.

The Coker Experimental Farms National Historic Landmark preserves the scientific achievements of Major John Lide Coker of Hartsville, his son David R. Coker, and the family firm - the Coker Pedigreed Seed Company.

Overview
The city of Darlington is the county seat of Darlington County, which developed from a Colonial land grant settled in the 1730s by Welsh colonists from Delaware and Pennsylvania. A circuit court was established here in 1800, and a succession of courthouses have existed on this site. The modern Darlington County Courthouse was completed in 1964.

Located adjacent to S.C. Highway 38, near Interstate 95 Exit 181A, near the town of Latta, the Early Cotton Press may be the oldest, original cotton press in the United States. While on private property, it may be viewed from a highway pullout.
