Site Description
During the Second Great Awakening, a revival of Christianity that spread throughout the United States in the late 18th and early 19th century, numerous Methodist and Baptist Churches were established, especially in rural regions and on the frontier. Many Methodist churches in the South were planted by itinerant ministers who traveled far distances by horseback. In 1856, a prominent Little River resident, Thomas Randall, donated property in the village of Little River for a Baptist Church, apparently replaced by Little River Methodist Church which began as a mission church in 1876. In 1892, Thomas Randall's daughter, Martha E. Bryan, deeded a lot for a new Methodist Church building.

The modern Little River United Methodist Church now on this site replaced a 19th century wooden structure, part of which can now be found in a popular Little River restaurant, The Parson's Table, located at 4305 McCorsley Avenue.
